A message from Minister of Commerce - Pakistan

I am pleased to know that an Ireland-Pakistan Business Council has been set up in Dublin with the principle objective of promotion of business activity between the two countries.

Pakistan foreign trade has seen unprecedented rise in the recent years. In the fiscal year ending June 2005, our overall exports rose by 17% to reach $14.4 billion with the import-principally machinery and capital goods exceeding $21 billion. Our textile sector is well poised to reap the benefit of a quota free regime in the western world. Our agri based industry as well as the vast services sector are expanding rapidly.

Pakistan’s strategic location astride South Asia-Central Asia and the Gulf and road links to China place the country in a unique position that connects half the world’s population. We invite you to profit from Pakistan’s economic upswing and thus make a contribution to the peace and progress of Asia.

Humayun Akhtar Khan,
Minister of Commerce,
Government of Pakistan ,
Islamabad.
